[When Fuuko wakes up today, it's hard for her to ignore just how quiet the house is. Normally she would see Kotomi around when she got up so the two of them could eat breakfast together. When the minutes continue to pass and her housemate had still yet to make an appearance, Fuuko knocks on Kotomi's door and peers inside. She calls out Kotomi's name into the room, only to soon realise what was going on.

Fuuko spends the morning just walking around her large and now empty house. She has her journal in her arms and held close to her chest, with the intention of using it to tell everyone about Kotomi at some point. But for now Fuuko wants a little time to herself, so she can think about what to do next and what to do about the house.]

[Around midday, Fuuko settles down in the living room on one of the couches and opens her journal.]

Kotomi Ichinose, Kotomi-chan, has gone home. Fuuko is sure she had plenty of friends who weren't bullies or weird guys, so Fuuko thought it would be better if everyone found out now rather than finding out at some other awful time.

[Though she starts her message looking at the journal, Fuuko soon starts looking away as though she's concentrating on something else.]

Fuuko thinks she didn't leave anything behind, in fact, Fuuko is positive of this.

[She was expecting to be more upset than this. For a moment she wonders if she's just getting used to making these sorts of messages, after having announced Nagisa, Tomoya and a few of her other friends and family went home in the past. With a sigh to herself, Fuuko turns her attention back to the journal .]

Kotomi-chan is a really kind, really intelligent person. She taught Fuuko a lot about the starfish you know. Fuuko is sure that Kotomi-chan will be very happy back home with Nagisa-san and Okazaki-san.

[After making her message over the journals, Fuuko heads out to the tea shop to get some work done. As tempting as it was for her to just stay home and keep inside for the rest of the day, the tea shop seemed like a good way to get her mind off of things for a little while. Though she's work as well as she normally does it's easy to notice how distracted Fuuko seems. Whenever she's not carrying out cups or cleaning up she can be seen staring off into space and otherwise keeping to herself unless someone needs her.]

[Going to the beach isn't exactly something she's thinking of doing right now. But when she does decide to go down to the beach, at least she knows for certain that there will be starfish there. She's been shown how many starfish there are at the beach in the past over the journals.]

But yes, that is why everyone else would also win. Fuuko thinks it would be very hard to lose a competition when you take part by counting starfish. You would only lose if counted no starfish at all.

Yeah, but that's only when you're over at the beach. For that moment, everyone wins until they return back to the village.

[So they have to wait until next time. But if they see starfish all the time, it would lessen their special appeal. Their starfish-y appeal.]

That's not true at all! To win a starfish counting competition would mean you would be a winner for at least a day, if not longer. Fuuko is sure the feeling of victory you get from counting a lot of starfish would carry over when you head back to the village!

[The joy you feel from counting starfish is not just a fleeting feeling, it stays with you for a very long time. Perhaps forever if you count enough of them. Trust her, she's a starfish expert. And also an expert on this competition she only just thought up.]

Oooh, I see. Since I never participated in a counting starfish contest, I wouldn't know what it feels like.

[Yeah, he'll just...concede this point to her. For now.

Now, if it's counting adorable cats, he would definitely understand the feeling.]

So it'd be like...a cat counting contest when it comes to feeling great.

Neither has Fuuko! But Fuuko is still sure, no, absolutely positive that that is what winning a starfish counting competition would feel like!

[Well too bad, she wouldn't understand why anyone would want to count adorable cats. Unless the cats where somehow dressed up as starfish. Or maybe if the starfish had cat ears on. Maybe.]

Fuuko has no idea what a cat counting context has to do with a starfish counting contest, the feeling would be completely different.

The only thing that's the same is the "counting contest" part. But I would definitely say a cat counting contest can give you just as great feeling as a starfish one!

The counting contest part really doesn't matter! The feeling Fuuko or anyone else would get from a competition involving starfish and a competition involving cats would be very different. So different it would be too difficult to compare the two!

[He better be serious, Fuuko is very serious right now.]

How do you know about that? Did you ever try having a competition involving cats before?

[Oh no, if this keeps up, he may get serious.]

Fuuko doesn't need to try it, Fuuko can already tell that the experience would definitely be lacking when compared to a starfish counting competition!

I'm afraid I must respectfully disagree. Anything involving cats won't definitely be lacking. In fact, I say it might be equal to starfish...or more.

Fuuko is sorry, but the starfish are definitely more than equal when it comes to cats. While Fuuko understands that cats have some sort of appeal to them, Fuuko still prefers the starfish!

It's your thing if you prefer starfish more [Prefs are prefs, after all.] but cats are definitely superior to starfish!

Isn't it just your thing to prefer cats as well then?! [That logic can work both ways!!] Even so, starfish are far superior to cats! The catfish is a testament to this!

Of course it's my thing to prefer cats! But that doesn't mean starfish are superior!
