[Fuuko is making a trip to the item shop today to look for a certain something. It wasn't here when she arrived, and honestly it's been bugging her for some time now. Having her little bag of starfish is all fine and dandy, but there's something else that would make everything just perfect. So here she is, rummaging away... Rummaging... Rummaging--

Oh. It's here. How long has it been here for? She doesn't know. She might well have missed it when she first came here and looked for her starfish. But that doesn't matter now. Fuuko has her party hat. Everything is now amazing.

Fuuko will then spend the rest of her morning out by the fountain in the plaza, carving more starfish. On one side of her is a few blocks of wood, on the other side are one or two completed stars and on her head is a green and orange striped party hat with a white bobble on the end. Her expression during this is nothing short of pretty damn happy.]

[Voice]

Fuuko has a question for everyone! [If you think she's going to ask about starfish then you're wrong. She's realised not everyone understands the appeal of the starfish and is instead taking a more roundabout approach to things.] What do you think about festivals? Fuuko would like to hold a festival someday. As such, Fuuko would like to hear about your festival experiences!

Also! If you received a starfish from Fuuko during that weird experiment then you better take really good care of it, ok?! The starfish deserve good homes!! [And it all comes back to starfish in the end anyway. Good job Fuuko.]

[And then she notices him. Uhm, hello, you're quite big and furry. And also flower shopping apparently! Not that it looks like that at all but you are going for a rose and everything.

Yeah, you're flower shopping.

So she's going to just stare at him now. The giant mutant turtles were one thing, but a big furry beast is certainly another.]

[Oh no, now she's noticing! He should've just run off with it when she wasn't looking.

He's... going to turn around and pretend that he wasn't even paying attention to the rose. Um, see this wrench? Yes, it's a very interesting wrench.]

[Hm, that wrench is fairly interesting. But that rose is much better, it's what you wanted in the first place right?

Party hat now in place, Fuuko walks over and picks up the rose. Wow, are you sure you really want that wrench over this rose? Because this rose is really good quality.

Luckily, Fuuko isn't a big fan of flowers, so she'll offer it out to him now. Come on, you wanted this really mister furry person.]

[... Well that didn't work.

But now that she has it, he carefully but firmly takes the rose, because it's his dammit and she might damage it.

And then, quietly and gruffily, he says:] Thank you. [Not that it's that important that he has this rose or anything.]

[Oh well, she didn't know it was his! It just looked like a pretty rose and stuff. But hey if you don't want her little starfish hands all over it mister furry guy then that's fine.]

No problem. Fuuko saw you looking and knew you wanted that flower. When you see something you like it's best to take it with you as soon as you lay your eyes on it! Otherwise, the next thing you know, that item you wanted would have been snatched up in an instant!!

[Freeze. Snatch it up? No, no, that definitely wouldn't have been good. His worry over this, unfortunately for him, is showing.

... Why is she talking like that?]

I... y-yes. I guess you're right.

[... Is making several glances at the rose in the bell jar... but you do not see them!]

Of course Fuuko is right! You have to take the initiative when it comes to objects of your desire. Weird guys will go out of their way to take them otherwise.

[Were Tomoya here she would glare at him now to get her point across. Or Draco. Or Kida. Weird guys taking ~~your starfish~~ ~~party packs~~ things is a very serious affair!]

Don't worry, at least you have it in your possession now. [...] Fuuko can't help wondering what you are...

[But yes, he has it now, which secretly relieves him and gives him much more hope for his future, but...

Hey, he's not a "what"!]

I'm a Beast. [He says in a very low, disgruntled tone.]

Yes, weird guy! People who would make fun of you, pull pranks and take everything you love and cherish!! [Might be slight exaggeration there... But hey, if someone took one of her starfish? Instant weird guy.]

[The word 'Beast' basically conjures some sort of generic horror story monster in her mind...] But you look very furry, how are you a beast? Is that a species of animal from your world or something... Oh, are you like those mutant turtles? Did you mutate from a puppy or something?!

Oh. [Poor gullible Beast has no idea that "weird" usually doesn't mean "mean".

... And this really isn't something he likes to talk about. He's still talking like he's disappointed.] No.

[Please, please don't ask him to explain.]

[Gosh, stop being so disappointed and gloomy looking. Just for that she's going to ask.] Were you born that way then?! Fuuko has never seen anything like you at all, so you must be from a very different world to Fuuko.

You don't look very happy. Aren't you happy you got your flower?!

[Grrrr...] No I wasn't. [Snapping a little this time.

It's all this flower's fault that he looks like this in the first place!

As an attempt to avoid more questions, he pulls the stupid rose closer to him and turns towards the door. Considering how deep in the shop they are, though, she probably has time to say more.]

[Say more she shall!] Don't talk to Fuuko like that, Fuuko was only curious!!

[Following him. Get back here!] That kind of reaction makes Fuuko think that you really aren't happy at all! Do you have a thorn stuck in your paw and you need someone to pull it out or something?! Fuuko can help out in that case!

[A wince and then he stops. The way she said that first bit reminds him a little too much of another reprimanding he received once. Gr, he doesn't like feeling bad.

He turns his head enough so she can see the side of his face, looking down slightly. No, he's not happy. But it's more than just a thorn.]

No... you can't.

[Oh good, he stopped. She'll stop following along, standing a little further away behind him.]

If Fuuko can't, can anyone help you?! [Or are you just constantly in a mood furry guy? She's not too sure what's going on really. Regardless, she hopes there's someone who can help him with whatever his problem is.]

[Bel... no, not anymore. He looks down at the rose; even if he has many reasons to hate the thing, seeing and having it again tells him that it isn't hopeless yet.]

... I don't know.

[Huh? That wasn't a reaction she had expected. He's looking at that flower again, right? She realises it must be pretty important to him, the way he keeps looking at it and holding it close.

Now whilst she can't understand what his problem is or find out what she can do to help, she does know one thing she can do. Reaching into her bag, Fuuko pulls out a starfish carving and steps a little closer.]

Please accept this. [Holding it out now. She's sorry she can't help, or find out a way to help you, but hopefully this carving will help a little? When things look dim, brighten your day with starfish.]

[Her own reaction isn't quite what he expected either. What's the wooden star for?

He looks up at her with a questioning look, wondering why she wants him to accept it.]

[She only looks back at him. Is it that hard to get? It's a present. Go on.]

Please accept this. [Trying again, pushing it a little closer. Hopefully it'll make him feel better? Most people seem to enjoy receiving things, and he did look pretty down.]

[He's just not used to complete strangers giving him gifts ~~unless they've come to curse him~~.

So he's going to make sure.] ... F-for... for me?

[~~Please accept this starfish in exchange for shelter from the bitter cold.~~]

That's right. [One last try, holding it out and looking up at him.] Please accept this!

[He finally takes the wooden star she's holding and examines it. Yes, it's... just a wooden star. He doesn't understand it, but...

"Now what do you say when someone gives you a gift?" he hears Cogsworth say in his head. Alright, alright.]

Thank you.

Don't mention it! [Beaming at him. Hopefully it'll cheer him up a little. Still rolling with the presents = happy idea.]

Take good care of it, the starfish like kind owners! [Well not really, they're just wood after all, but he better take care of it all the same.] Do you feel any better now?

[Oh, it's a starfish... what? Is she saying this thing is alive?]

I... a-a little... sure. [People giving you things really does feel nice... he should maybe do it himself sometime.]

I... [A glance at the wooden star... fish.] H-how, h-how do I... take... c-care of...? [He looks awkwardly at it again. Does he have to feed it?]

[Success!] Good! Fuuko is pleased to hear this.

Just don't throw it out or leave it alone! The starfish are incredibly independent and can take care of themselves really, as long as they have a good home they'll be fine. [No feeding required! Think of it as a pet rock or something like that. Only it's not a rock, it's a starfish. Made a of wood.]
