[Fuuko is making a trip to the item shop today to look for a certain something. It wasn't here when she arrived, and honestly it's been bugging her for some time now. Having her little bag of starfish is all fine and dandy, but there's something else that would make everything just perfect. So here she is, rummaging away... Rummaging... Rummaging--

Oh. It's here. How long has it been here for? She doesn't know. She might well have missed it when she first came here and looked for her starfish. But that doesn't matter now. Fuuko has her party hat. Everything is now amazing.

Fuuko will then spend the rest of her morning out by the fountain in the plaza, carving more starfish. On one side of her is a few blocks of wood, on the other side are one or two completed stars and on her head is a green and orange striped party hat with a white bobble on the end. Her expression during this is nothing short of pretty damn happy.]

[Voice]

Fuuko has a question for everyone! [If you think she's going to ask about starfish then you're wrong. She's realised not everyone understands the appeal of the starfish and is instead taking a more roundabout approach to things.] What do you think about festivals? Fuuko would like to hold a festival someday. As such, Fuuko would like to hear about your festival experiences!

Also! If you received a starfish from Fuuko during that weird experiment then you better take really good care of it, ok?! The starfish deserve good homes!! [And it all comes back to starfish in the end anyway. Good job Fuuko.]

It's fine, Fuuko. I suppose you couldn't help yourself. Most of us couldn't. And I'm, um, sorry for interrupting you from going about your business. Most elves hate that.

Fuuko wasn't really fond of being an elf anyway. Fuuko prefers to be human rather than some elf! Though Fuuko did get some very nice gifts out of it.

Can Fuuko keep the coat? Fuuko would understand if you only gave it to Fuuko as a part of the experiment.

...I, um, I didn't think you'd want to, seeing as how it's most certainly too large for you.

But, yes. You may keep the coat, Fuuko. [He tugs on the sleeve of the jacket he's currently wearing.] As you can see, I've already gotten another one.

[And you'd hardly be the first small child out in the cold that he's given a jacket to and never gotten back.]

It is a little big, but that only made it all the warmer when Fuuko put it on! [Yup, very warm. But if she can keep it then she shall! She'll make it up to him someday, perhaps with even more starfish.]

[So uh, about that guitar. Fuuko is looking at it. You can play Giles? Fuuko is intrigued.]

[...what are you staring at, Fuuko?

Giles follows her gaze until he realizes that she's staring at his guitar.]

Sorry. Is this in your way?

[Shaking her head. Nope, it's not in the way. If it were she probably would have just outright said it was in the way.]

No. Can you play the guitar Giles-san? [Because the fact he's carrying one around can't possibly mean he can!]

Yes, I can. Around now is the point where I usually practice, actually.

[He tends to assume that the presence of the guitar gives people a hint.]

[Well he could have been holding it for someone else or something! Either way it's nice to ask all the same.]

If that is a case then Fuuko hopes that Fuuko is not disturbing your practice! [Suddenly the fact Fuuko stole his spot is more relvant.]

[It is, and he appreciates it. He's quite proud of his guitar.]

It's fine, Fuuko. You were here first.

Well ok. [She'll take a few scrapes at her carving before speaking up again.]

If you want to practice anyway then you can go ahead. Don't let Fuuko being here before you stop you from playing!

Actually, I was wondering if now would be a good time to take you up on your offer of carving lessons.

[Oh, right! She remembers talking about that at the New Feather party. She shifts down the fountain a little so there's some space to hand Giles a little block of wood and the knife she was using.]

Of course! Lessons will start right now. Are you ready?! [I mean, they could go somewhere else, but she's totally ready to rock right now.]

[He gives her a quick salute with the hand holding the block.]

Ready and willing.

That's the spirit!

[And then despite how excited she seemed, Fuuko leans in close and speaks a bit quieter. Concentrating. Very hard.]

We're going to carve a starfish, okay? Start off by getting the general shape of the starfish and removing these parts. [Pointing to the two top corners of the block.] Then you should have the top point of the starfish! Tell Fuuko to slow down if Fuuko is going too fast.

No, I think I've got it.

[He starts cutting away at the block, aiming to chip away at one of the top corners of the block. Not at all like carving a stake, but some of the skills might carry over.]

[Fuuko will just be watching and quietly observing the carving in process.]

Make sure you keep your fingers away, in case the knife slips and you catch yourself. [Not that she needs to say this, there's clearly some skill present here.] You're doing a great job!

[Giles shifts his fingers very slightly on the block of wood without looking up. Wood shavings already dot the fountain around him.]

Thank you, Fuuko. I'm very glad you approve.

[Nodding. Mmhm, all the approving. Keep it up!]

Once you have the top point, work on these parts... [Indicating to the lower left and right of the block now.] But make sure not to take as much off here as you did at the top! Otherwise the points might end up weird. [And then that would just be disrespectful to the starfish.]

[See, this is why he needs you around, Fuuko. A point's a point. What's weird about that?

At the moment, though, he just nods and focuses on finishing up the top point. That, at least, is familiar enough.] Right.

[Looks alright to her. It's not too thin or jagged or anything like that, it's 'just right'.

Pointing at the different points of the block and describing what to do is one way to go about this, but then Fuuko remembers she has a star with her already. Why tell someone what to do when they can work towards a reference?

So here it is, one completed wooden starfish, ready to be copied!]

Work towards this! Fuuko has realised you don't need any help with the basics as you seem to know what you're doing. Instead, just get as close to this shape as you can!

[Giles stops his carving long enough to take the starfish, set it on its knee, and get a good look.]

Apparently so much practice carving fence posts is worth more than I thought.

Yes! It certainly seems like your skills from then have carried over, onto the starfish.

Why did you carve so many fence posts anyway? Did you used to live in a really big house and decide to build your own fence all the way around it?

Yes, I used to live in a very large house.

And it wasn't just a large house. It had quite a bit of land attached.

[He finishes up the top point and holds the starfish-to-be up to one eye to examine it.

He isn't lying, of course. He did used to live in a very large house. It just...wasn't what the stakes were for.]

...everyone needs a hobby.

Fuuko imagines you would need quite a few fence posts then. That would be understandable!

[Leaning in a little to eye the point of the starfish also... Thumbs up!]

Of course, hobbies can be lots of fun! Carving starfish is something like Fuuko's hobby.
